Teresa Alexander

The Vase

She sits high on the shelf

Safe from little hands that might drop her

She is a focal point in the room

An eye catching attention getter

She has a story this is known only to her

The journey that has brought her to this place

She has a chip on the rim and her paint is faded

Remnants of a long ago move and time in a sun filled window

She was a gift to one and a burden to another

By luck of a yard sale and a decent price

She finds herself sitting high on the shelf

Now cherished and loved

Forward

Looking toward the path sought

Finds unexpected pleasures one never thought

The colors of a sunset or the light on the water

Deepening within and twinkling acceptance

Thoughts deepen with the force of epiphany

Surging through and filling the soul

Casting doubts on the mundane and

Looking for new adventures

Build connections to the future which

Trumpets the past

Sordid details fester within yet

Keeps the soul pushing forward
