Regression to the Quick

Some one time, someone
told someone else,
something I said,

which, I shouldn’t
have said,
to make me look bad.

Did they so to hurt me,
but hurt the other
more?

Was quite a lesson in pain?
Like wincing a child
from his mother

cries he so does, like
a splinter found a home
piercing deep, beneath

a nail bed quick, like
a tongue, when the tea isn’t
quite ready to be received,

like pain endured so,
when someone told me something,
someone said, about me!

for sure, for shame

Every night, when I go out,

       The weasel's on the table,

Take a stick and knock it off”

       Pop goes the weasel.
